Synagogue, Historic Centre, Žilina

The synagogue was built in 1931 on the site of an older synagogue dating from 1860, to a design by the prominent Berlin architect Peter Behrens. Its Functionalist architecture with Moorish elements makes it a rare monument of national importance. Today the building houses the Centrum cinema. A plaque commemorates Jews who died in German concentration camps.
