City Theatre, Historic Centre, Žilina

The Municipal Theatre was built in 1942–1944 as the city's Representative House and a church school. Architects Otto Reicher, Ferdinand Čapka and František Bednárik designed the Italian Neoclassical building. A theatre company has operated here under various names since 1950, alongside several Žilina schools. Since 1991, the Municipal Theatre has again been based here, as have Žilina Television and Radiozet. A plaque with a bust of Dr. Vojtech Tvrdý, an important town official and mayor, was unveiled on the building in 2001. Its comprehensive renovation was completed in 2003.
