Primatial Palace, Old City, Bratislava

Archbishop and Cardinal Jozef Baťán (Batthyány) commissioned the Neoclassical Primate's Palace to designs by architect Melchior Hefele. The Peace of Pressburg between France and Austria was signed in its Hall of Mirrors in 1805 after the Battle of Austerlitz. The abolition of serfdom and the law on the Czechoslovak federation were also signed here. The palace holds a unique complete set of six 17th-century tapestries woven in Mortlake, England, depicting the tragic love of Hero and Leander.
