Southwest of the summit, Kriváň, High Tatras

Kriváň is a natural landmark of Upper Liptov and one of Slovakia's highest peaks, at 2,494.7 meters. It has been an unofficial symbol of Slovakia since the 19th century; members of the Slovak national revival made several ascents. From 1960 to 1990, the peak with a bonfire appeared on Slovakia's emblem and Czechoslovakia's state coat of arms, temporarily replacing the traditional Slovak emblem with three hills and a cross, used since the era of the Kingdom of Hungary and also present in Hungary's coat of arms. In 2005, it was decided to feature Kriváň on Slovak euro coins. The asteroid (24260) Kriváň is also named after it.
